For our March episode, we met with two amazing boss babes that know all about styled shoots, publications and bringing couples vision to life!
From Inspiration: Where do I start in the design process? A great place to start (and most brides do) is that Pinterest board. But, rather than 500 boards you have been adding to since middle school, narrow it down to 1 current board that is fresh and updated! Create a Love Board and Hate board. What you want is just as important as what you don’t want, so comment on your photos/inspiration of what you LOVE from that photo. From there, we create a color palette including main and accent colors. During the design meeting, we make sure to include every piece of the day and that everything is represented (cake, wedding dress, reception decor, florals etc.)
What inspiration is trending in print and social media? Should I look for “trendy” things or make them unique? It really depends on the area you are in. A trend is just an idea and themes seem to be popular to start with and make it your own. Be honest with your vendors. They can really take your idea and create something new with it. Boho is a popular look right now, but not always as cost effective as couples may think, so consider your budget. Asking questions like “what is in season to complete this look” will help better guide your design decisions.
What could be differently? We should redefine what rustic means and looks like. For example, you can be creative with rustic colors rather than burlaps. Bring in your personal flare into any style you do.
To Publication: How do we get published? It’s all in the details! Depending on where you want your wedding or styled shoot published, chat with your planner and photographer. There is a publication for every wedding. Variety is key, especially here in Florida! Know what the target is for the publication in order to know where to send your photos. Keep your wedding in mind first and share your real story and how the details played into your big day!
What is your favorite current style/look? COLORS! Pop of colors! Jewel tones and boho is fabulous! Pinks and mustard yellows. Many couples like the greenery and whitel, so when you get pops of colors, it is so fresh and fun! Jewel tones offer a lot of great combinations! If you want classic looks- feel free to play on the fabrics and textures like velvets. When you add multiple textures or metallic- the color can really pop!
What do I need to know about stationary and calligraphy in design? You don’t need to get a lot to make an impact- a beautiful aspect to make your design unique. Calligraphers are also designers so give them a vision and they can create something really unique and beautiful. Place cards, Welcome signs, table numbers and smaller pieces are great to incorporate. It is much like your wedding brand coming to life. Invitation suites are beautiful if you have budgeted for them, but adding in pieces (especially for publications) is key!
Do you prefer themes or colors in design? COLOR!
